Kremlin: Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks Rest on Kyiv, Washington’s Efforts
Dmitry Peskov told media on Sunday, “A great deal depends, naturally, on the position of the Kyiv regime. It depends on how effectively Washington's mediation efforts will continue.”
Peskov reiterated that Russia’s stance on the talks is “well known,” stressing that the realities on the ground cannot be overlooked and must factor into any discussions.
Moscow anticipates that the date for the third round of negotiations will be set “in the very next few days.”
Previously, Peskov noted that this scheduling would follow the completion of procedures tied to prisoner exchanges agreed upon during the second Istanbul peace talks earlier this month.
The second round of Russia-Ukraine talks took place in Istanbul on June 2, following the inaugural session on May 16.
During these discussions, both parties consented to further prisoner exchanges, focusing on the youngest and most critically injured, as well as the repatriation of the remains of 6,000 soldiers from each side. Additionally, they swapped peace proposals aimed at resolving the conflict that has persisted for over three years.
Several prisoner swaps have occurred since then, the most recent being on June 26.
