Israeli Airstrike Damages Tehran's Evin Prison
The facility was reportedly targeted by an Israeli aerial assault on that date, occurring just one day ahead of an agreed ceasefire.
Six days following the incident, Asghar Jahangir, representing Iran’s judicial authority, issued a declaration stating that the Israeli offensive resulted in the deaths of 71 individuals.
The fatalities included correctional staff, military personnel, prisoners, relatives of inmates, as well as civilians residing in nearby housing.
Among those confined within Evin Prison is Narges Mohammadi, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, who was sentenced for "acting against national security."
Mohammadi was granted the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023, while still incarcerated.
A crew from Anadolu documented firsthand visuals of the widespread devastation.
According to a prison representative speaking to Anadolu, the strike was executed using seven rockets discharged from fighter aircraft.
The assault specifically targeted multiple key structures within the prison compound—namely, the administration block, medical center, prosecutor’s office, and the visitor hall—with the administrative section suffering the most extensive destruction.
Within the administrative premises, furnishings and official paperwork were visibly torn and strewn about, while texts in the library—including copies of the Holy Quran—were seen to be damaged.
