High Temperatures Hit Germany

(MENAFN) An intense heat wave is anticipated to grow stronger throughout Germany this week, with the German Weather Service (DWD) forecasting that temperatures could climb close to 40°C (104°F) by Wednesday.

Meteorological authorities have announced broad heat alerts, focusing especially on the southern and western parts of the country.

During what are being described as "tropical nights," the mercury is predicted to stay above 20°C (68°F), offering minimal respite from the sweltering daytime conditions.

Public health officials caution that the soaring heat brings serious health dangers, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, and individuals with existing health concerns.

DWD has strongly advised the public to stay out of direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Experts from the weather agency also recommend drinking plenty of fluids and seeking out shaded or air-conditioned environments to stay cool.

The heat emergency is made worse by a persistent lack of rainfall, with many areas experiencing sharply reduced precipitation over the last five months.

On Tuesday, the German Weather Service also issued dire warnings about forest fire threats.

Several federal states are now under the highest danger category—alert level 5—due to the dangerously dry and hot conditions.
