US Maintains Gaza Aid Support

(MENAFN) The United States announced on Monday that it would continue backing a humanitarian aid effort in Gaza, even after Israel acknowledged that civilians were harmed in strikes near aid delivery locations.

During a regular news conference, State Department representative Tammy Bruce dismissed any notion of pausing American aid to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

She stated firmly, "Well, I think the answer to that certainly is no."

Bruce also mentioned that "The IDF and Israel have announced that they are, of course, investigating certain incidents." She added, "It is a good time for a reminder here that Hamas is responsible for the current situation in Gaza."

Her remarks followed Israel's public admission on the same day that civilians had indeed suffered at humanitarian distribution areas in Gaza, and that their forces had since been given revised guidelines.

According to Khaled Khiari, the Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific, speaking to the UN Security Council on Monday and citing information from Gaza's Ministry of Health, a minimum of 580 Palestinians have lost their lives since June 17 while either approaching GHF distribution zones or waiting for other relief efforts.

Bruce noted that the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has successfully delivered nearly 51 million meals at four separate distribution hubs throughout Gaza.

"It is certainly not easy. There are efforts and those on the ground who do not want this to be a success, who have made the lives of the people of Gaza miserable for decades now," she concluded.
