Canadian PM Caps Off Washington Visit
(MENAFN) Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney ended his working trip to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday after meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump to address critical issues in trade and defense cooperation.
A statement from the prime minister’s office outlined that the two leaders pinpointed significant opportunities for advancement in trade sectors such as steel, aluminum, and energy. They instructed their teams to finalize agreements within the next few weeks.
The dialogue also focused on enhancing Arctic security measures. Carney emphasized Canada’s recent increases in defense spending, the forthcoming Defence Industrial Strategy, and the scope for deepening bilateral collaboration, according to the release.
"President Trump and I know that there are areas where our nations can compete -- and areas where we will be stronger together," Carney said.
In addition to his meeting with Trump, Carney engaged with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and held discussions with influential U.S. senators to highlight Canada’s economic and trade priorities, including the upcoming review of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement.
