Russia Launches New Nuclear Submarine ‘Khabarovsk’
The unveiling ceremony was held in Severodvinsk, attended by Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov along with other senior military officials.
“Today is a significant event for us: the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Khabarovsk is being launched from the slipway of the renowned Sevmash shipyard,” Belousov remarked.
He further explained, “Carrying underwater weapons and robotic systems, it will enable us to successfully accomplish missions related to ensuring the security of Russia’s maritime borders and protecting its national interests in various parts of the world’s oceans.”
Belousov noted that the submarine still needs to undergo a series of sea trials, expressing his hopes for continued success for both the vessel’s crew and its constructors.
The ‘Khabarovsk’ “was specifically designed and built for the Poseidon,” former Chief of the Russian Navy’s General Staff, Admiral Viktor Kravchenko, told a news agency on Saturday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized that the Poseidon currently “cannot be intercepted by any means.”
