Two suspects get detained in UK after stabbing number of civilians
“Armed officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested. A number of people have been taken to hospital,” Cambridgeshire Police said. Later updates confirmed that ten people were hospitalized, with all but one suffering life-threatening injuries.
British Transport Police initially declared a terrorism alert, which was subsequently lifted. Chief Superintendent Chris Casey stated it would “not be appropriate” to speculate on the motive at this stage.
Social media videos showed a significant police presence at Huntingdon station. A witness told a news agency they saw “extremely bloodied” passengers fleeing, adding that one passenger shouted, “They’ve got a knife.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the “appalling incident” and expressed gratitude to emergency responders, writing, “My thoughts are with all those affected.” Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood described herself as “deeply saddened” and urged the public to “avoid comment and speculation at this early stage.”
