Kremlin Aide Says US Presented “Interesting Offers” to Russia

(MENAFN) The United States has presented “interesting offers” to Russia concerning the Ukraine peace process, though negotiations have largely stalled in recent weeks, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said.

For months, Moscow and Kyiv have engaged in US-facilitated discussions, meeting twice in a trilateral format—first in Abu Dhabi in January, followed by talks in Geneva in mid-February.

The next round of talks in the United Arab Emirates, originally scheduled for early March, has been disrupted by ongoing US-Israeli military actions against Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory strikes on American bases across the Middle East.

Speaking to Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin on Sunday, Ushakov stated that the US “voiced a number of fairly interesting, I would say, useful ideas and offers” vis-à-vis the Ukraine peace process. “But those are not being realized so far,” the Kremlin aide added.

Ushakov emphasized that, ultimately, Russia adheres to the principle “trust, but verify” in its international dealings.

Earlier this month, Moscow reiterated that the trilateral format aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict should continue, noting that all parties have an interest in ending hostilities.

In early March, Russia and Ukraine conducted a reciprocal exchange of 500 prisoners of war each. US special envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed the swap had been arranged during the last round of talks in Abu Dhabi, adding that the exchange demonstrated how “sustained diplomatic engagement is delivering tangible results.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday, a delegation of Russian lawmakers met with a bipartisan group of US counterparts at the invitation of US Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida.

“As representatives of the world’s two greatest nuclear super powers, we owe our citizens open dialogue, ideas, and open lines of communication,” Luna said in a post on X following the talks at the Donald Trump Institute of Peace in Washington.

The head of the Russian delegation, Vyacheslav Nikonov, described the meeting as going “better than expected,” noting that restoring contacts between the two nations’ legislatures was now “possible.”
