Teacher Injured in Knife Assault by Student in France

(MENAFN) A teacher at a school in southern France was seriously wounded on Tuesday after being stabbed by a 14-year-old student.

"A teacher was the victim of a knife attack at a middle school in (the town of) Sanary-sur-Mer," Education Minister Edouard Geffray wrote on the social media platform X.

The 60-year-old female art teacher was stabbed in the chest in front of approximately 20 students at La Guicharde secondary school, according to reports citing local authorities.

Toulon’s public prosecutor Raphael Balland stated that preliminary information indicates recent tensions between the teacher and the student, who was reportedly angry at her.

The school was evacuated following the incident, and classes scheduled for Wednesday were reportedly cancelled.

"My thoughts immediately go to the victim, her family and the entire educational community, whose deep shock I share," Geffray added.
